Translation: 203. Narrated Osama ibn Zayd: ' Allah's Messenger sent us to Al-Haraqah, and in the morning we attacked them and defeated them. An Ansari man and I followed a man from among them and when we overtook him, he said: " La Ilaha illa Allah (None has the right to be worshipped except Allah). " Upon hearing that, the Ansari man stopped, but I killed him by stabbing him with my spear. When we returned, the Prophet ﷺ learned about this and he said: “ O Osama! Did you kill him after he had said: ' La Ilaha illa Allah (None has the right to be worshipped except Allah)? " " I said: " But he only said it to save himself. ” The Prophet ﷺ kept on repeating that so often that I wished I had not embraced Islam before that day. " (Bukhari)
