Chapter 240: About Criticizing a Double-Dealer

Chapter Introduction

٢٤٠ ـ باب ذم ذو الوجهين

Translation: Allah said:

الْقُرْآنُ الْكَرِيمُسُورَةُ النِّسَاءِ (4:108)
يَسْتَخْفُونَ مِنَ النَّاسِ وَلَا يَسْتَخْفُونَ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَهُوَ مَعَهُمْ إِذْ يُبَيِّتُونَ مَا لَا يَرْضَىٰ مِنَ الْقَوْلِ ۚ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيطًا
( سُورَةُ النِّسَاءِ (4:108) )

Translation: " They may hide (their crimes) from men, but they cannot hide (them) from Allah, for He is with them (with His Knowledge), when they plot by night in words that He does not approve. And Allah ever encompasses what they do. * " (4: 108)

Translation: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said as

Hadith 827: Hadith 827

۸۲۷- عَنْهُ قَالَ : قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ أَكْرَمُ النَّاسَ قَالَ : ( أَتْقَاهُمْ ) . الُوا : لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ ، قَالَ : فَيُوسُفُ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ، ابْنُ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ ، ابْنِ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ ، نبِيِّ اللهِ ، ابْنِ خَلِيلِ اللهِ . قَالُوا : لَيْسَ عَنْ هَذَا نَسْأَلُكَ ، قَالَ : ( فَعَنْ مَعَادِنِ الْعَرَب تَسْأَلُونَ خِيَارُهُمْ في الجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُهُمْ في الإِسْلَامِ ، إِذَا فَقَهُوا ) . رواه البخاري

Translation: 827. Narrated by Abu-Huraira:; ' The people said: " O Allah's Messenger! Who is the most honorable amongst the people (with Allah)? " He said: " The most righteous amongst them. " They said: " We do not ask you about this. " He said: " Then Yusuf (Joseph), Allah's Prophet, the son of Allah's Prophet, the son of Allah's Khalil (i.e. Abraham). " They said: " We do not want to ask about this, " He said: " Then you want to ask about the descent of the Arabs. Those who were the best in the pre-Islamic era will be the best in Islâm provided they understand the religious knowledge. " (4: 5720.Bukhari)

Hadith 828: Hadith 828

۸۲۸- عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهُ ) . صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : : ( تَجِدُونَ النَّاسَ مَعَادِنَ ، خِيَارُهُمْ في الجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيارُهُمْ فِي الإِسْلامِ إِذَا فَقَهُوا ، وَتَجِدُونَ خَيْرَ الناس في هَذَا الشَّأْنِ أَشَدَهُمْ لَهُ كَرَاهِيَةً ، وتَجِدُونَ شَرِّ النَّاسِ ذَا الْوَجْهَيْنِ ، الَّذِي يَأْتِي هَؤُلاَءِ بِوَجْهِ ، وَيَأْتِي هؤلاء بِوَجْهِ ) . رواه البخاري

Translation: 828. Narrated Abu-Huraira: " Allah's Messenger said: " You see that the people are (like) metals (of different natures). Those who were the best in the pre-Islamic era are also the best in Islam if they understand the religious knowledge. You see that the best amongst the people in this respect (ambition of ruling) are those who hate it most. And you see that the worst among people is the double faced. (person) who appears to these people with one face and to the other people with another face (hypocrite). " (Bukhari)
