Chapter 146: About Performing the Funeral Prayer and Escorting the Deceased to the Grave and some General Rulings

Chapter Introduction

١٤٦ ـ - باب في الصلَاة على الميت وتشييعه وأحكام عامة
٤٧٨ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْب حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبي هُرَيْرَةَ قَال : قَالَ رَسُوَلَاللهِ صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ صَلَّى عَلَى جَنَازَةٍ فَلَهُ قِيرَاطٌ وَمَن تَبِعَها حَتَّى يُقْضَى دَفْنُهَا فَلَهُ قِيرَاطَان أَحَدُهُمَا أَوْ أَصْغَرُهُمَا مِثْلُ أَحد فَذَكَرْت ذَلِكَ لَابْنِ عُمَرَ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ فَسَأَلَهَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَتْ صَدَقَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةً فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ لَقَدْ فَرَّطْنَا فِي قَرَارِيطَ كَثِيرَةٍ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنَ الْبَرَاءِ وَعَبْدِ اللَّهُ ) . بْنِ مُغَفُلٍ وَعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَأَبِي سَعِيدٍ وَأَبَيْ بْنِ كَعْبٍ وَابْنِ عُمَرَ وَثَوْبَانَ قَالَ أبو عِيسَى حَدِيث أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ قَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْهُ مِنْ غَيْرِ وَجْهِ *

Translation: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said as:

Hadith 478: Hadith 478

478. Narrated Abu-Huraira: ' The Messenger of Allah said: “ He that performed the Funeral Prayer will have one qirat; and he that escorted it [ the body of the deceased] until it has been buried will have two qirats one of them (or he said: " The smallest of them ") is like Uhou.10.33 10. Abu-Salama, one of the narrators said: ' I mentioned this to Ibn Omar and he sent to A'isha and asked her about this. She said: Abu-Huraira has told the truth. " At that, Ibn Omar said: " How numerous are the qirats we had missed! "

٤٧٩ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ مِنْصُورٍ قَال سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْمُهَرْمِ قَالَ صَحِبْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ عَشْرَ سِنِينَ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ

Translation: 10 Uhud is a mountain near Madina.

Hadith 479: Hadith 479

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهُ ) . صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مِنْ تَبعَ جَنَازَةً وَحَمَلَهَا ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَقَدْ قَضَى مَا عَلَيْهِ مِنْ حَقَّهَا قَالَ : أَبو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٍ غَرِيبٌ وَرَوَاهُ بَعْضُهُمْ بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ وَلَمْ يَرْفَعْهُ وَأَبُو الْمُهَزْمِ اسْمُهُ يَزِيدُ بْنُ سَفْيَانَ وَضَعْفَهُ شُعْبَةُ *

Translation: 479. Narrated Abbas ibn Mansour: ' I heard Abul- Mohazzim saying: " I have accompanied Abu-Huraira for ten years. I used to hear him saying: ' I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: " He that followed a funeral and carried it, he has fulfilled what he is obliged to do. " He used to say this thrice. Hadith 480: Hadith 480

٤٨٠ - عَنِ ابْنِ عَبّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُمَا قَالَ : : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيََََُُِِّّّّّّّّ صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : مَا مِنْ رَجُلٍ مُسْلِمٍ يَمُوتُ ، فَيَقُومُ عَلَى جَنَازَتِهِ أَرْبَعُونَ رَجُلاً ، لَا يُشْرِكُونَ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئاً ، إلا شَفَعَهُمُ اللَّهُ فِيهِ * رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ

Translation: 480. Narrated Ibn Abbas: ' I have heard the Prophet saying: " If any Muslim dies and forty men who associate nothing with Allah offer the funeral prayer for him, Allah will accept them as intercessors for him. " ** (Muslim)

Hadith 481: Hadith 481

٤٨١ - عَنْ عَوْفِ بْن مَالك رَضِيَ اللهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ قَالَ : : صَلَّى رَسُوَلَاللهِ صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى جَنَازَةِ ، فَحَفَظْتُ مِن دُعَائِهِ اللَّهُ ) .مََّّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ ، وَارْحَمْهُ ، وَعَافِهِ ، وَاعْفُ عَنْهُ ، وَأَكْرِمْ نُزُلَهُ ، وَوَسَعْ مَدْخَلَهُ ، وَاغْسِلْهُ بِالمَاءِ ، وَالتَّلْجِ ، وَالبَرَدِ وَنَقَهِ مِنَ الخَطَايَا كَمَا نَقِيْتَ الثَّوْبَ الأَبْيَض من الدنس ، وَأَبْدِلْهُ دَاراً خَيْراً مِنْ دَارِهِ ، وَأَهْلَاً خَيْراً منْ أهله ، وَأَدْخِلْهُ الجنة ، وقه فِتْنَةَ فتنة القَبْرِ ، وَعَذَابَ النَّارِ * رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ

Translation: 481. Narrated Awf ibn Malek: ' Allah's Messenger performed the funeral prayer for a dead boy and I memorized his supplication: " O Allah! Forgive him; show him mercy; grant him security; pardon him; grant him a noble provision. and a spacious lodging; wash him with water, snow, ice, and hail; purify him from sins as the white garment is purified from filth; give him a better abode in place of his present one; a better family in place of his present one,; and a better spouse in place of his present one; put him in Paradise; and save him from the trial of the grave and the punishment of Hell. " (Muslim)
