Chapter 188: About the Voluntary
Hadith 596: Hadith 596
٥٩٦- عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا : أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُصَلِّي : قَبْلَ الظُّهْرِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، وَبَعْدَهَا رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، وَبَعْدَ المَغْرِبِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فِي بَيْتِهِ ، وَبَعْدَ الْعِشَاءِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، وَكانَ لَاَ يُصَلِّي بَعْدَ الجُمُعَةِ حَتَّى يَنْصَرِفَ ، فَيُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ . رواه البخاري
Translation: 596. Narrated Ibn Omar: ' Allah's Messenger used to perform two raka'as before zohr prayer and two raka'as after it. He also used to perform the two raka'as after maghrib prayer in his house and the two raka'as after isha prayer. He used not to perform the voluntary prayer after the Friday Prayer, except after going to his house where he used to perform the two (voluntary) raka'as. ' (Bukhari)
Translation: 16 Al-Jomoa'a Prayer is the congregational Friday Prayer. It comprises 2 raka'as in congregation at the time of zohr prayer and substitutes it and it is preceded by a khutbah (a sermon).
